We replaced a manual rotary engraving setup with two Snapmaker U1 fiber units in March 2023. Marking time per surgical clamp dropped from 45 seconds to under 4 seconds. Payback period was 7 months based on labor savings alone.
We evaluated three desktop fiber lasers side by side in Q2 2024. The U1 was the only one that held +/-0.015mm positioning consistency after 8 hours of continuous batch marking. The others drifted past 0.03mm by hour five. That consistency is why we ordered four more units.
The 40W diode cuts 5mm birch plywood cleanly in a single pass at 8mm/s. For our custom ornament line, that means 200 pieces per shift on one machine. The enclosed design also meant we passed our county fire inspection on the first visit.
Snapmaker U1 established with a 12-person engineering team focused on desktop fiber laser marking systems. First prototype completed in 8 months using JPT MOPA pulsed fiber sources.
Received CE marking for European distribution and FDA 21 CFR 1040 compliance for the U.S. market. First shipments to 12 countries across North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Reached 10,000 installed units globally. Opened Santa Clara, CA office to provide direct technical support and parts inventory for North American customers. Team grew to 95 employees.
Introduced the 10W-40W diode laser cutting module series, expanding from metals-only marking into wood, acrylic, leather, and fabric processing. Achieved ISO 9001 certification for manufacturing quality management.
Surpassed 35,000 installed units in over 50 countries. Opened European distribution hub in Düsseldorf, Germany. Engineering team expanded to 40 specialists across firmware, optics, and mechanical design.
